The City of Hurst Elevates Fitness with New Outdoor Gym
In an exciting collaboration with our Texas dealer, Lea Park & Play, and the City of Hurst Parks & Recreation Department, we are proud to have established a state-of-the-art outdoor gym located in Hurst’s beautiful Chisholm Park. Chisholm Park is the City’s largest park, covering over 50 acres. It is equipped with excellent amenities including an aquatics center, athletic fields, basketball court, playground, picnic area, walking trail, and much, much more. With this new outdoor fitness addition that includes turf surfacing and an overhead shading structure, the city has upgraded this park with year-round accessible, versatile, and inclusive fitness equipment for everyone, regardless of their fitness level.
Fitness Equipment Built to Last
The City of Hurst developed a clear goal for this project: to create an accessible and long-lasting outdoor gym. They chose Outdoor-Fit due to our reputation for manufacturing equipment that is built to last with safety, durability, and performance unmatched by any. Their outdoor gym includes four of our most popular pieces of equipment:
- Helios Multigym: Built with the user in mind, the Helios features our unique assist lever on the chin-up/dip station that ensures every fitness enthusiast, from beginner level to advanced level, can exercise properly.
- Titan Multigym: Our most compact multigym that supports four simultaneous users and features stations to cover all major muscle groups, offering a push-up platform, chin-up and dip bars, elevated knee raise, and calf raise.
- Versa Hi-Lo Pulley System: This tamperproof 100lbs adjustable weight stack is similar to an indoor cable machine, the most popular station in any indoor commercial gym, and features our locking lever to eliminate any pinch points or crush zones.
- Everest Cardio Climber: The Everest mimics climbing a set of stadium stairs in a continuous motion and features two different exercise modes, strength mode and cardio mode, entirely determined by the user's stroke range and cadence.

Together, these four pieces of equipment support ten users at once and offer cardio, bodyweight strength training, assisted weight strength training, and adjustable weight resistance training.
Thoughtful Design for Safe Use
Selecting equipment was only one portion of the project. While all our equipment is biomechanically correct and weatherproof, ensuring the design of the fitness area was safe was another key part that puts their new outdoor gym to the next level. Our team helped design a layout that includes ASTM-compliant use zones and clearance space to ensure compliance with industry standards for public safety and accessibility.
To further boost the user experience, the City of Hurst decided to go with turf surfacing to provide a soft, comfy foundation for equipment use. The turf surfacing, combined with proper spacing between each piece of equipment, allows for stretching and yoga activities, creating a multi-use environment for every type of fitness enthusiast.
Texas Summers can get very hot, so another critical design feature of this new outdoor gym was the inclusion of a shade structure overhead. Providing shade reduces heat exposure, blocks powerful UV rays, and lowers surface temperatures. This shade helps to extend user satisfaction by allowing for longer, more vigorous workouts with fewer required breaks and less risk of heat-related health concerns.
Community Fitness with Endless Possibilities
The beauty of a new outdoor gym is that it isn’t just a set of machines in a park to take up space. It’s a community resource. Individuals can perform solo workouts or group circuit training with everyone exercising simultaneously. The City of Hurst Parks and Recreation Department has already begun to take full advantage of this by hosting community fitness classes at their site with a focus on strength and cardio training.
Roadmap for the Future
This installation perfectly aligns with our objective of redefining public parks as a space for the community to support physical and mental health. With their new versatile, inclusive, and high-performance fitness area, the City of Hurst has shown what’s possible when thoughtful planning and collaboration meet innovative engineering.
