The City of White Rock, British Columbia officially opened an upgraded outdoor fitness space at Centennial Park on June 3, 2026, featuring three new Outdoor-Fit multigyms: Apollo Multigym, Versa Hi-Lo Pulley System, Flex Multi-Stretch. The ASTM-compliant, tamperproof stations were selected to create an inclusive fitness environment for residents of all ages and abilities and to withstand coastal seasonal weather with minimal maintenance.

The Challenge: Consolidating a Scattered Fitness Offering Into a Real Outdoor Gym

White Rock's existing outdoor exercise stations were spread across the city, including a cluster at Generations Playground that was not co-located with the walking and running loop residents use. Scattered single stations are a common municipal outcome: they get installed opportunistically over years, they never add up to a complete workout, and they are harder to maintain and program than one consolidated space.

The city wanted a single, purpose-built outdoor fitness space that residents of all ages and abilities could use as a genuine circuit — positioned beside the Centennial Park oval, built to survive the wet, salt-air coastal climate of the Semiahmoo Peninsula in unsupervised public use, and delivered without an ongoing repair burden on parks staff.

The Solution: Three New Outdoor-Fit Stations, Five Repurposed, One Complete Space

The city paired three new Outdoor-Fit multigyms with five existing stations relocated from Generations Playground, consolidating everything into one fitness zone at the southwest corner of the Centennial Park oval. The new Outdoor-Fit equipment covers the gaps that the existing stations left:

  • Apollo Multigym — multi-user bodyweight and resistance training across several exercises in a compact footprint, enabling group programming and circuit training.
  • Versa Hi-Lo Pulley System — adjustable resistance targeting every major muscle group (upper-body strength, core, lower-body conditioning). The high-low pulley design adapts to all fitness levels and is one of the most popular stations in both indoor and outdoor fitness settings.
  • Flex Multi-Stretch — dedicated mobility and recovery station, rounding out the strength/cardio/stretch.

Every station is ASTM-compliant, ADA-compliant in layout, tamperproof, and weatherproof, engineered for unsupervised public use and designed around correct exercise biomechanics.

Reusing five serviceable stations rather than discarding them also stretched the City's capital dollars further and kept usable equipment out of the waste stream — a practical sustainability win for any municipality with assets in the wrong location.

This equipment is built to last, and our residents will use it for years to come.

How Municipalities Fund Outdoor Fitness Upgrades

White Rock's project is a useful template for municipalities working with modest capital budgets: pair a municipal contribution with local charitable and service-club partners, and reuse serviceable existing assets where they make sense.

Canadian municipalities, schools and non-profit organizations can purchase through Canoe, the Canadian cooperative purchasing group that offers Outdoor-Fit's equipment under the equivalent Sourcewell contract. Outdoor-Fit also works through authorized dealers across North America, and the Fit-City Park & Recreation Program lets municipalities apply to receive an outdoor gym at a significant discount.

Frequently Asked Questions About the White Rock Outdoor Fitness Space

The City of White Rock's upgraded outdoor fitness space is at Centennial Park, just off the southwest corner of the park oval. It is free and open to the public and was officially opened on June 3, 2026.

The space features three new Outdoor-Fit multigyms: the Apollo Multigym, Versa, and Flex — plus five exercise stations relocated from Generations Playground. The Outdoor-Fit park exercise units are ASTM-compliant, tamperproof, and weatherproof, designed for users of all ages and abilities.

Yes. Outdoor-Fit parks exercise equipment can be incorporated into an existing park or outdoor fitness area rather than requiring a completely new installation. White Rock combined three new Outdoor-Fit stations with five existing exercise stations that were relocated from another park, creating a more complete fitness space while making use of equipment the City already owned.

Yes. Outdoor-Fit equipment is built for year-round outdoor use, including wet and coastal environments. Steel components go through a multi-step corrosion-protection process that includes abrasive blasting, a zirconium-based treatment, a zinc-rich primer rated for 4,000 hours of salt-spray testing, and a durable exterior-grade topcoat that helps protect against moisture, UV exposure and weather. Heavy-duty steel construction and stainless steel tamperproof fasteners add further durability for long-term use in public outdoor spaces.

All equipment should be inspected regularly. Units without moving parts require only periodic structural checks. Units with moving components — such as cable and pulley systems, weight stacks, and assist mechanisms — require more frequent inspection and have wearable parts that will need to be replaced over the life of the equipment.
